How to use ChatGPT Slides and export decks to PowerPoint

Four-step diagram for ChatGPT Slides: create in Work or Space, edit with Request edits, share with teammates, export to PowerPoint, PDF or Google Slides

ChatGPT Slides builds an editable presentation inside ChatGPT that you can present directly or export to PowerPoint (.pptx), PDF or Google Slides. OpenAI started rolling it out on October 16, 2026 to Pro, Business and Enterprise accounts with access to Space, so Free and Plus users won’t see it. To make a deck, ask for one in Work or choose Create > Slide in Space.

This guide walks through creating, editing, presenting and exporting a deck, explains why Slides may be missing from your account, and compares it with the older ChatGPT add-in for PowerPoint.

Before you start

  • You’ll need: a ChatGPT Pro, Business or Enterprise account with Space access. The rollout is gradual, so an eligible account may not have it yet.
  • Where it works: ChatGPT on the web, or the desktop app in cloud mode. Collaborative Slides doesn’t work locally on Windows 10.
  • Time: 10–20 minutes for a first deck, depending on how much you edit.
  • Checked: against OpenAI’s help article and release notes on October 20, 2026.

What ChatGPT Slides is

Slides is a presentation editor built into ChatGPT. ChatGPT drafts the deck from your prompt, files or an existing conversation, and you edit the result yourself or ask ChatGPT to change specific elements. Decks open in Space, where teammates with edit access can work on them at the same time and leave comments.

It’s different from the ChatGPT add-in for PowerPoint, which runs as a sidebar inside PowerPoint and is available on more plans.

How to create a deck in ChatGPT Slides

There are two starting points. Use Work when you already have material in a chat or files; use Space when you want to start from a blank slide or template.

Start from Work

  1. Open Work in ChatGPT.
  2. Ask for a slide, presentation or deck. Say who the audience is, what the deck should achieve and how many slides you want, for example: “Eight slides for a client kickoff: goals, timeline, budget, next steps.”
  3. Attach source files (a report, spreadsheet or notes) or refer to the current conversation so ChatGPT uses your facts rather than generic filler.
  4. ChatGPT creates an editable presentation that opens in Space. If you ask for a PowerPoint or Google Slides file directly, it can produce that format instead.

Start from Space

  1. Open Space.
  2. Select Create > Slide.
  3. Choose a blank slide or a template.

To match your own style, share an example deck and ask ChatGPT to follow its layout. Business and Enterprise teams can build reusable templates with template-creator and share them through team Plugins.

How to edit slides with ChatGPT

  • Edit directly: click text, images, shapes, tables or charts and change them as you would in any slide editor.
  • Edit one element with ChatGPT: select it, click Request edits, and describe the change, such as “turn this into a bar chart” or “cut this to three bullets.”
  • Edit the whole deck: use the prompt bar for changes across slides, such as shortening every slide or updating a chart from new data.
  • Fonts: on the web you get fonts your browser has; the desktop app can use fonts installed on your computer.

OpenAI’s help page says to review text, figures and layout before you share or present. Check every number ChatGPT puts on a chart against your source file.

How to share and present

Share the deck with teammates. Anyone with edit access can work on it at the same time, use shared comments, and @mention ChatGPT to have it make a change. You can present directly from ChatGPT without exporting.

OpenAI’s product page mentions view, comment and edit permissions, but its help article says comment-only access isn’t available at launch. Plan on giving reviewers either view or edit access for now.

How to export ChatGPT Slides to PowerPoint, PDF or Google Slides

On the web, Slides exports to three formats:

  • PowerPoint (.pptx) if you’ll keep editing in PowerPoint;
  • PDF for sending a read-only version;
  • Google Slides to keep working in Google’s editor.

In the desktop app you can open the deck in PowerPoint or Keynote if either is installed; on a Mac you can also show the file in Finder. OpenAI’s help article doesn’t list the exact click path for export, so we haven’t guessed at one here.

After exporting, open the file and check it. OpenAI warns that complex layouts, charts, unusual fonts and strict templates may need formatting fixes.

ChatGPT Slides not showing? Check these

  1. Your plan: Slides is limited to Pro, Business and Enterprise accounts with Space access. Free and Plus don’t include it.
  2. The rollout: it is reaching eligible accounts in stages, so a colleague may have it before you.
  3. Your workspace: on Business and Enterprise, if teammates have Slides and you don’t, ask your workspace admin whether your account has Space access.
  4. Windows: local editing in the desktop app needs a Windows component OpenAI calls MXC. Windows 10 doesn’t support it, and Windows 11 may need an update or an administrator to enable it. Without it, you get PowerPoint files instead of collaborative Slides. Use ChatGPT on the web or cloud mode instead.

If you’re still on Windows 10 or an older Windows 11 release, our guide to Windows 11 24H2 end of updates explains your upgrade timeline.

Before you upload client files

Slides works best with your real documents, which means sending those documents to OpenAI. On Business and Enterprise plans, OpenAI’s business data privacy page says it does not use your business data for training by default. On a personal Pro account, check your data controls first; our guide to stopping AI training on your chats shows where the setting is. While you’re in settings, ChatGPT’s ad personalization controls are worth a look too.

FAQ

Is ChatGPT Slides free?

No. It’s included with Pro, Business and Enterprise plans that have Space access. Free and Plus accounts don’t get it.

Can I edit a ChatGPT Slides deck in PowerPoint?

Yes. Export it as a .pptx file from the web, or open it in PowerPoint from the desktop app. Check the formatting afterwards.

Does ChatGPT Slides work on Windows 10?

Not for local editing in the desktop app, because Windows 10 doesn’t support the required component. Use ChatGPT in a browser instead.

Can teammates edit the same deck at once?

Yes, if they have edit access. They can also comment and @mention ChatGPT to request changes.

How we checked: we compared OpenAI’s help article on Slides, its ChatGPT Slides product page and its October 16, 2026 release notes (via Releasebot), plus TechRepublic’s October 19 walkthrough. We did not have access to Slides on a test account, so menu labels are taken from OpenAI’s documentation. Where OpenAI’s pages disagree, as on comment-only access, we’ve noted it.

Next step: pick one deck you need this week, attach its source document in Work, and ask for a first draft with a set slide count. Export it to PowerPoint and check the charts before you send it.
