Editorial Standards

This page explains how articles on The Solo Toolbox are chosen, researched, checked and kept up to date. If an article falls short of these standards, please tell us.

What we publish

We publish an article only when it answers a specific question or solves a specific problem for someone running a business on their own. We would rather publish one guide that fully solves a problem than several thin pages that each cover part of it, and we don’t publish near-duplicate pages aimed at slightly different search phrases.

Research and sources

We rely on primary sources wherever possible: the software maker’s own documentation, release notes, help center and pricing pages. Where a claim depends on a source, we link to it. Prices, plan limits and features change often, so articles state when they were last checked and which version of the software the instructions apply to.

Testing

We never claim to have tested something we haven’t. When an article is based on hands-on use, it says so and notes what we used it on. When it is based on documentation and research, it says that instead. We don’t invent test results, benchmarks, statistics, quotes or personal experiences.

How we use AI

We use AI tools to help with research, outlining and drafting. AI does not decide what we publish. Every article is reviewed by a person who checks its facts, instructions and sources before it goes live, and we do not publish AI-generated text that hasn’t been verified.

Independence

Companies cannot pay for coverage, for a better verdict, or to review an article before it is published. If a company gives us free access to a product, the article will say so. If we ever use affiliate links, they will be disclosed on the page where they appear, and they will not influence what we recommend.

Updates and corrections

Software changes, so we revisit articles when the instructions or facts in them change. Articles show the date they were last updated. When we correct a factual error, we fix it and add a short note at the end of the article explaining what changed. To report an error, use our contact page.
