Notion AI credits change on Nov 2: what Business users get

Infographic comparing Notion Standard credits, Select credits and purchased Notion credits per Business seat

Notion AI credits work differently from November 2, 2026. Existing Business and Enterprise workspaces move to a two-part system: each seat gets 1,500 Standard credits a month for work where Notion picks the AI model, and 500 Select credits a month for when you pick the model yourself or run Custom Agents. Both reset monthly. Notion announced the change on October 19, and it already applies to new customers.

This guide explains which tasks draw from which credits, what happens when they run out, how admins buy more and what to check before the switch.

Before you start

  • The new credits apply to Business and Enterprise seats. Notion’s announcement does not mention the Free or Plus plans.
  • Details were checked on October 26, 2026, against Notion’s October 19 announcement and its help center. Admins of existing workspaces will also get an email from Notion.
  • Only workspace owners and admins can buy extra credits.

Standard, Select and Notion credits compared

There are now three kinds of credit. Two come with every Business or Enterprise seat; the third is bought by the workspace.

Credit typeHow you get itWhat it pays for
Standard1,500 per seat, every monthAI requests on Auto, where Notion chooses the model: writing, summarizing, asking questions
Select500 per seat, every monthRequests where you choose the model, plus your own Custom Agents and, by default, team Custom Agents
Notion creditsBought by owners or admins for the workspaceUsage beyond the included credits, high-consumption models such as Fable and Astra, and Custom Agents the admin chooses to fund centrally

Notion says most people are unlikely to use up their monthly credits. It has not published how many credits a typical request costs, so you will only know your own pattern after a few weeks on the new system.

Which tasks use which credits

  • Leaving the model on Auto uses Standard credits. Notion’s own advice is to use Auto for everyday writing, summaries and questions.
  • Choosing a specific model yourself uses Select credits. Switching back to Auto moves you back to Standard.
  • Your own Custom Agents use your Select credits. How fast depends on how complex the job is and which model the agent uses.
  • Team Custom Agents use Select credits by default, even when other people trigger them. An admin can switch an agent to workspace Notion credits instead. Notion’s FAQ does not spell out whose seat is charged, so check usage after the switch.
  • Your personal Notion Agent with ChatGPT connected uses your ChatGPT Plus or Pro subscription instead of Standard or Select credits.

What else Notion changed on October 19

The credit change came with a rebuilt agent system. These figures are Notion’s own and have not been independently tested:

  • Auto router: across more than 20 common tasks, Notion says Auto gives results similar to top models at about 90% lower average cost. Auto can also switch models mid-task if one stalls.
  • Longer agent runs: a single Notion Agent task can now run for more than 24 hours, up from five minutes.
  • Review for me: a mode where a second model checks an agent’s actions before it takes them.
  • Cheaper Custom Agents: runs cost about 30% less in Notion’s testing.
  • AI Command Center (coming soon): admins will see credit use by member, feature and agent, set spending limits and choose which models members can use.

How to buy more Notion credits

Owners and admins can top up from settings. On desktop or web:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to Access & billing > Notion credits.
  3. Select Add Notion credits and choose an amount.

For a recurring monthly amount, go to Settings > Access & billing > Billing and select Manage credits. There is also an auto-adjust option that buys more automatically when the workspace runs low. Increases apply immediately and are billed at the next monthly date; decreases start the following period.

Limits to know before you buy:

  • Notion credits have no cash value. Notion’s help page doesn’t describe refunds; the only exception it mentions is a prorated credit for unused prepaid annual credits when a new Business or Enterprise order replaces the old one early.
  • You can’t buy them if your subscription is billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Notion’s workaround is to cancel the app store subscription, subscribe to Business or Enterprise on notion.com, and then have an admin buy credits.
  • Admins get in-app and email alerts at 80% and 100% of usage.
  • When workspace credits run out, Custom Agents funded by the workspace and high-consumption models pause until credits reset or an admin adds more. A personal Custom Agent keeps running until your own Select credits are gone.

What to do before November 2

  1. Watch for Notion’s admin email, which will list your workspace’s details.
  2. Set Auto as your habit for everyday writing and summaries, so routine work stays on the larger Standard allowance.
  3. List your Custom Agents and how often they run. Scheduled agents that run every hour on a hand-picked model are the most likely to drain Select credits.
  4. If you already pay for ChatGPT Plus or Pro, connect it to your personal Notion Agent to keep that work off your Notion credits.
  5. If you run a one-person workspace on a tight budget, leave auto-adjust off until you have seen a month of usage.

FAQ

Do unused Notion AI credits roll over?

No. Standard and Select credits reset every month and do not carry over, according to Notion’s help center.

Does the change affect Notion’s Free or Plus plans?

Not directly. Notion’s help center says Standard, Select and Notion credits are only available on Business and Enterprise plans, and the October 19 announcement describes only those seats. If a workspace downgrades to Free or Plus, its existing Custom Agents are switched off.

Is Notion raising its prices?

The announcement changes how AI usage is counted. It does not announce new seat prices. Extra usage beyond the included credits is paid for with Notion credits that admins buy.

Can I use my ChatGPT subscription in Notion?

Yes, in your personal Notion Agent. Notion’s FAQ names ChatGPT Plus and Pro, and the main post also lists Go. It does not work with Custom Agents yet.

Next step

Open Settings > Access & billing now and note who your workspace owners and admins are. They are the only people who can add credits or fund team agents after November 2.
