Netflix AI Discover: How to Find It and Why It’s Missing

Diagram of the four steps to use Netflix AI Discover on a TV: open the Discover tab, pick a theme, narrow it down, tune a title

Netflix AI Discover is a new tab in the Netflix TV app that suggests shows and movies based on the mood or situation you pick, such as “Scare Me” or “Quick Watches.” Netflix announced it on November 3, 2026, and it is a limited test: it only appears for some members in the US who use Netflix in English on a supported TV. If you have it, look for Discover with a red gem icon and a New label in the top menu.

Below: who gets the tab, how to use it, why it may be missing on your TV, and what it changes about your recommendations.

Before you start

  • Applies to: the Netflix app on smart TVs and streaming devices, US accounts, profiles set to English
  • Not available on: phones, tablets, the web, or Kids profiles (as of November 4, 2026)
  • Cost: no extra charge or sign-up. Netflix picks which members get the test
  • Time needed: about a minute to check whether you have it

What is Netflix AI Discover?

Netflix calls AI Discover a “test kitchen” for new ways to find something to watch. It sits in its own tab, separate from the regular home screen, and Netflix says ideas that work there “may even make their way into the main Netflix experience.”

The first feature in the tab is built around themes rather than a search box. You won’t type a prompt or chat with a bot. Instead, you move through a set of mood and situation cards with your remote:

  • Mood themes such as “Something Light” and “Scare Me”
  • Who is watching, such as “Family Movie Night”
  • How much time you have, such as “Quick Watches”
  • Themes based on you, drawn from what is new, popular, or what you have been watching lately

Each theme is previewed with a short clip from a show or movie. Netflix says AI helps create the themes, and that it will explain why it picked the results it shows you.

How to find AI Discover on your TV

  1. Open the Netflix app on your TV and choose a standard (non-Kids) profile.
  2. Look at the top navigation menu. If you are in the test, you will see Discover with a red gem icon and a New label. Tom’s Guide describes it as sitting next to My Netflix.
  3. Select Discover to open the tab.

The tab is labeled “Discover” on screen, not “AI Discover,” so it’s easy to miss if you are looking for the full name.

How to use themes, Something Different and Tune Your Recommendations

  1. Pick a theme. Scroll the theme cards and select one that matches what you want. A set of matching shows and movies appears.
  2. Narrow it down. More specific themes show up under your choice. In a demo described by What’s on Netflix, picking “Quick Watches” led to a narrower “Workplace Comedies” option. Keep selecting until the list looks right.
  3. Start over with Something Different. If nothing fits, choose Something Different for a fresh set of themes.
  4. Tune a title. Every title has a Tune Your Recommendations button next to Play and My List. Use it to keep a recommendation or to tell Netflix not to recommend that title again. What’s on Netflix reports that choosing not to see a title asks whether you are “not interested” or have “already seen” it, and the title then disappears.

Why you don’t see AI Discover

If the Discover tab isn’t in your top menu, one of these is the likely reason:

  • You weren’t picked for the test. This is the most common reason. Netflix is starting with a small group and adding people over several weeks. You can’t request access.
  • You are on a phone, tablet or browser. The test is TV only.
  • Your profile isn’t in English, or your account isn’t in the US.
  • You are on a Kids profile. Switch to a standard profile.
  • Your TV or streaming device isn’t supported. Tom’s Guide found no Discover tab on an older Sony Bravia TV or on a Roku stick connected to a non-smart TV. Netflix hasn’t published its device list yet.
  • Your Netflix app is out of date. Updating the app or the TV’s software won’t add you to the test, but an old app version can’t show new features. Check for updates in your TV’s app store or system settings.

Reinstalling the app or signing out and back in won’t add you to the test. Netflix assigns it by account.

Does AI Discover change your normal recommendations?

Netflix says that when you tell AI Discover a title isn’t for you, it will “remember it in AI Discover, so it won’t keep turning up.” The announcement does not say whether those choices also change the rows on your main home screen, so treat them as separate for now.

Your main recommendations still come from the signals Netflix lists in its Help Center, including viewing history, the ratings you give titles, the time of day you watch, your preferred languages and the devices you use. If you want better picks on the regular home screen, rating titles and hiding things from your viewing history still matter more than anything in the new tab. Our guide to turning off ACR on your smart TV covers a separate setting: the viewing data your TV maker collects, which Netflix’s settings don’t control.

Can you turn off AI Discover?

No. According to What’s on Netflix, members in the test can’t opt out or remove the tab from the top menu. You can simply not open it. The regular home screen rows and search work the same as before.

How it compares with Netflix’s earlier AI search test

In 2025, Netflix tested an opt-in generative AI search on iPhone that let people type phrases like “something funny and upbeat.” AI Discover takes a different route on the TV: no typing, just themes you pick with the remote. Netflix has said typing on a TV is awkward, which explains the switch to cards. It hasn’t announced a mobile version of AI Discover, other languages or other countries.

FAQ

Is Netflix AI Discover free?

Yes. There is no extra charge and no separate subscription. It only appears for members Netflix selects for the test.

Is AI Discover available outside the US?

Not yet. Netflix says it is starting in the US for members using Netflix in English. It hasn’t announced dates for other countries.

Can I use AI Discover on my phone?

No. The November 3 rollout is limited to supported TVs. Netflix hasn’t said whether the tab will come to mobile or the web.

Does AI Discover use a chatbot?

No. You choose from themes with your remote. AI helps generate the themes and the explanations, but there is no text or voice prompt in this first version.

What to do next

Check your TV’s top menu for the red gem icon over the next few weeks, since Netflix is expanding the test gradually. If the tab never appears, you can still improve your regular Netflix recommendations by rating titles and hiding ones you didn’t finish from your viewing history.
