iOS 27.3 beta 1: new features and should you install it
iOS 27.3 beta 1 went to developers on November 3, 2026. The headline changes are a redesigned Health app with Insights and Longevity tabs, Siri AI actions in more apps and languages, vertical tabs in Safari, and the iPhone Duo’s StandBy coming to every iPhone that runs iOS 27. Apple has said the public release comes in December, with no date.
Here is what is in beta 1, what is still missing, and whether it makes sense to install it on the phone you use every day.
Before you start
- Applies to: iPhones that run iOS 27; some features need an Apple Intelligence-capable model
- Current public version: iOS 27.2, released October 26, 2026
- Beta type: developer beta only, no public beta yet as of November 4
- How we checked this: feature list cross-checked against MacRumors and 9to5Mac beta 1 coverage on November 4, 2026. We have not installed the beta ourselves.

New features in iOS 27.3 beta 1
Redesigned Health app
The Health app gets new Insights and Longevity tabs, according to MacRumors. Longevity groups data into seven categories and shows a “Health Age” estimate. Vitals adds overnight and daytime views, including heart rate variability, and Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 owners get a readiness score. The redesign needs an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence.
Siri AI actions and new languages
Siri AI can take actions inside Calendar, Files, Journal, Mail, Maps, Messages, Music, Notes, Photos, Preview, Reminders, Safari, Shortcuts and Weather. It also adds Traditional Chinese, Vietnamese, Turkish and Norwegian. A developer preview lets third-party apps plug in through App Intents, so expect app support to arrive gradually after release.
Safari: vertical tabs and adaptive dark mode
- A Vertical Tabs layout option in Safari settings.
- Adaptive Dark Mode, which darkens sites that have no dark theme of their own.
- A Use Global Privacy Control switch under Safari’s Advanced settings, which signals to sites that you don’t want your data sold or shared.
StandBy for every iOS 27 iPhone
The StandBy redesign that launched on the iPhone Duo comes to all iPhones that run iOS 27, with more clock customization. If you are still deciding on the Duo, our iPhone Duo durability guide covers the hinge and screen questions.
iPhone Duo changes
- Reachability by swiping from the outer edges, turned on in Settings > Accessibility > Touch.
- The emoji and number keys, and the microphone and return keys, swap positions on the keyboard.
Smaller changes
- Control Center: the VPN control can switch between VPN configurations.
- App Library: the search Cancel button is now an X.
- Weather: a Liquid Glass condition slider and updated next-hour precipitation.
- Apple Music: Selfie Sing uses the front camera during Apple Music Sing; open a song from the Apple Music Sing playlist and tap the camera icon.
- Freeform: new text styles and board background colors; text-described custom shapes are for Apple Creator Studio subscribers.
- Apple Fitness+: a Gym Strength program with a generated four-week plan.
- Apple Watch: Live Rewind and Siri Recap need both watchOS 27.3 and iOS 27.3, and are turned on in the Watch app.
- Regional: Apple Intelligence launches in China on iPhone 15 Pro and newer (Siri AI excluded), and RCS arrives for Telstra customers in Australia.
What is still missing
MacRumors noted that the fix for Safari’s Apple Intelligence password feature had not returned in beta 1, and we found no later report that it has. Neither MacRumors nor 9to5Mac listed specific beta 1 bugs when we checked, which usually means testing is still early, not that there are none.
Should you install iOS 27.3 beta 1?
For most people, no. First betas are for testing apps before release. Banking, work and health apps can break, battery life is often worse, and going back to iOS 27.2 means erasing the phone and restoring a backup made before you upgraded.
It is reasonable if you develop iOS apps, especially ones that could use the new Siri App Intents, or you have a spare iPhone. Wait for a public beta, or for the December release, if this is your only phone.
How to install the iOS 27.3 developer beta
- Back up your iPhone to iCloud or a computer, and archive the backup on a Mac or PC so it isn’t overwritten.
- Make sure your Apple Account is enrolled in the Apple Developer Program. Beta access doesn’t require the paid membership.
- Open Settings > General > Software Update.
- Tap Beta Updates and choose iOS 27 Developer Beta.
- Go back, wait for iOS 27.3 beta 1 to appear, then tap Update Now.
To stop getting betas later, return to Beta Updates and select Off. Your iPhone moves to the public release once Apple ships one newer than your beta.
