About The Solo Toolbox

The Solo Toolbox is an independent publication about the software that one-person businesses run on. We write for freelancers, consultants, solo founders and anyone else who is also their own IT department: the person who has to get the invoicing app, the calendar, the AI assistant and the laptop working before the actual work can start.

Most technology coverage is written for companies with a help desk. Our guides assume you don’t have one. When we explain how to do something, we explain what each step is for, what tends to go wrong, and what to try when it does.

What we cover

  • How-To Guides: step-by-step instructions for common software tasks.
  • Business Software: invoicing, accounting, scheduling, CRM and other admin tools, compared and explained.
  • AI Tools: what AI assistants can realistically do for a small operation, and where they fall short.
  • Productivity: workflows and automations that save one person real time.
  • Troubleshooting: fixes for the errors that stop work when there’s nobody to call.

How we work

Every article starts from a specific question a reader actually has. We check instructions against the current version of the software and its official documentation, link to our sources, and say plainly when an article is based on research rather than hands-on testing. The full details are in our editorial standards.

How the site is funded

The Solo Toolbox is free to read. We don’t currently run ads or use affiliate links. In the future the site may show advertising, such as Google AdSense, or earn commissions through affiliate links. If it does, ads will be clearly separated from articles, affiliate links will be disclosed on the pages where they appear, and neither will decide what we recommend.
